quietly working away

There have been a few hard frosts to start our days and I have been soaking up every second of sunshine I can find and wrapping up warm to head out into the cold and grey days.

There have been many days and evenings spent in front of the fire.

I always find winter doesn't seem to feel very productive, but I've been slowly crossing projects off my list of things to do.

I now have 6 new cushion covers. I posted that I wanted new cushion covers. I finally took the time to sit down and make them.

They are a simple square cushion cover with grey polka dot linen on the back and print fabric on the front with a calico ( to make them firmer) and a simple zip opening at the bottom of each. Nothing too fancy- simple and effective.

I brought from briscoes 6 cushion inners 50cm x50cm and I can't complain at these prices. The inners are slightly larger than the cushion covers.

I had thought about using our old cushion's inserts (fluff) but I needed 6 cushions worth and I only had 4 existing cushions. Buying the inserts seemed like the easiest/cost effective and least messy way of filling the cushions.

I do love how they turned out!!

I was on the hunt for cushion covers for our couch (currently very brown).
Found a few on etsy and after a little bit of time searching and capturing a few screen shots It was easy to come to a colour palette I wanted for our couch cushions.

It would have been far to easy just to order from the store on etsy. But honestly where is the fun in that? Who doesn't like a good sewing challenge- linen, zips, actual cushion inners.

Stitch was sadly closing up shop and after visiting with Master B I found some fabrics I really enjoy!!

The grey and linen look great with the couch and curtains we already have.

Does anyone have any awesome cushion zip placement tutorials that are tried and tested? And cushion inner vs just plain cushion fluff- whats the best way to go?

Now to find some time to sew new cushion covers!

I have been trying to find time to create. I am enjoying the time I have to sew and make. Its a fine line between blogging about being creative and actually sitting down to make something I really like.

It feels good to be creating, making and sewing again!

fun op shop fabric

I came across this fabric at our local op shop. It was only $2 for a few meters of coral cotton knit fabric. WIN!

I am using my Papercut Pattern for the Sloppy Josephine Tee. I used the pocket from the Undercover Hood Pattern

I added the pocket to the bottom hem.

Its so nice to (finally) be done and it fits so well and loving this colour for summer!

I have been busy cutting, sewing and ironing many 1/2 triangles.

It feels good to have a vision and its so quick once you get sewing and see it all come together.

Hoping to get it quilted and finished in the next few weeks.

new top

Back in January I made a new summer top. You can find instructions for the pattern (you can also buy the actual pattern if you didn't want to print/cut out the pattern)

I called into Haralds Fabrics and saw this fabric and love the blue/coral/cream/green combo and for this top I only need 1 metre and the fabric was less than $12.00.

This pattern is so simple to follow and with this fabric so easy make and I was much quicker the second time around.

Master W decided to be in the photos

Fits perfectly! Might need to make a few more for spring. Am I the only one wanting summer back now?

I have seen this top made on a few blogs recently . I loved the simple style and the instructions for the pattern (you can also buy the actual pattern if you didn't want to print/cut out the pattern) was very easy to follow.

I purchased it and printed it out and stuck together. I made the top a size M but only took 1/2 inch seam allowance for the french seams. I did enjoy all the french seams- the total of 4 seams and binding was super easy compared to all that I did for the hexagon quilt.

It was super quick to make when I actually sat down and spent some time on it.

It fits really well and I really like the length and cut. Perfect for summer!

Now to find a nice fabric to make this pattern as the dress.

Easy Zipper pouch tutorial

Materials needed
Zip in co-ordinationg colour to fabric- 8'' or 10'' long
cut x2 outside fabric cut to 9''x 6 1/2''
cut x2 lining fabric cut to 9'' x 6 1/2''
Thread
Zipper foot and normal sewing foot

Place outside fabric facing up once you have cut it to the size you need it

Place zip facing down. If you have a zip that is too long it can be sewn over and cut down

Then place lining fabric on top- they should all line up at the top.

Pin and sew 1/4'' using a zipper foot along the top edge.

The zip will need to be moved at some point when you are sewing. Just before you are near to it- keep the needle in the down position- lift the foot- zip the zipper past where you are working (away from you)- put foot down and continue sewing the length of the zip.

I couldn't decide what colour zip to use but choose the white with this fabric. It should look like this when you open it out after you have sewn along the edge.

Now repeat with the other side of the zip placing and pinning outside fabric, zip and lining and sew together. It should look like this below.

Inside

Next step it to pin outside fabrics together and inside fabrics together. NOTE- you will need to open the zipper up to half way. This makes it much easier turning it all back in the right way after you have sewn around the edges.
