winter clothes swap

The lovely Lauren hosted a clothes swap. The main idea is you bring along 5 items of clothing you no longer wear/ want to swap for free.

This was my pile of items no longer needed. A few tops, shorts, skirts, bracelets and scarves.

It was exciting to arrive and see 2 tables piled up with clothes.

The greatest part was finding clothing that fitted and that we would be happy to buy in a shop.  We had plenty of time to put items aside, try them on, show others and decide what we want.

Most of us went back through the piles again and were pleasantly surprised to find things we didn't see the first time.

I was so stoked to find a pair of boots, open toe shoes, a jacket, a tee shirt, 2 pairs of jeans and 2 dresses. Clothing swap win!!

So much fun with friends and it cost nothing for a super fun morning and of course who doesn't love the thrill of finding new clothes.

spraying knobs

I have been looking for drawer knobs for a while now since the ones we had were really old, breaking easily and we never had the right number.

I finally found on trade me (a big whooo!) some that I liked (not loved) and the quantity was more than we needed. The style was similar to what we had. I couldn't ever find more than 6 vintage style drawer handles (we need 19 so they all match) so when I saw these ones I knew we had to have them.

I don't like the black/brownish look (next to the wood/existing scroll around the knobs) so I had a quick look on pintrest the answer was -a few coats of spray paint. (cheap and easy!)

A trip to Bunning's to find a similar colour was harder than I thought with so many options and none matching what we already had but I finally settled on Satin Silver.

safety first

I created a makeshift spray box to hold/contain the lightly sanded and cleaned knobs and the spray paint.

Now it was time to spray. The paint is quick dry 15-20 minutes so that made it very easy for each coat to be applied. Two coats each side.

They are not perfect but look so much better than before!

Just like magic each drawer has a handle and they all match!

Project Life 2014 Week Twenty-two

Another week complete and another month gone. I brought 2 new mini kits as I was running out of title cards. I have been using the 3x2'' cards for notes- they are really cute and such a waste not to use them.

Winter came before June so its been really frosty overnight and the fire is on every evening now.

I had so much fun using Picmonkey to create these 6x4 photos of the boys facial expressions.

Make ( previously The Make Cafe) now has a new location (exciting!!)

I got to have a look through the new shop today and see how it has all come together. It was so nice to have the sun shining in on the new space and of course a view of the snowy mountains in the distance is pretty awesome.

Such fun spaces have been created with each workshop room, shop and kitchen + lounge area.

.

New location is 232b Main South Road, Christchurch . Make sure you check out the new Make shop!

we are doing the 50 Dangerous things (you should let your children do) #34

Master B's eyes lit up when he saw this dangerous thing we were going to do. Mr B found an old cellphone and a hard drive that we no longer had a use for.

We talked about some of the things we might find inside these items - screws, circuit boards, camera, wires and buttons. We also needed to work out what size screw driver we needed and in what order to start taking the items apart.

We used the old rhyme - lefty loosely and right'y tightly to undo the screws.

One of our most exciting finds was 2 very strong magnets and a metal disc that looked like a cd from the hard drive. We had to keep track of all the tiny screws we had taken out of each item to get inside.

Master B was very optimistic about putting the cellphone back together. (a job for another day)
