I now have new cushion covers

I now have 6 new cushion covers. I posted that I wanted new cushion covers. I finally took the time to sit down and make them.

They are a simple square cushion cover with grey polka dot linen on the back and print fabric on the front with a calico ( to make them firmer) and a simple zip opening at the bottom of each. Nothing too fancy- simple and effective.

I brought from briscoes 6 cushion inners 50cm x50cm and I can't complain at these prices. The inners are slightly larger than the cushion covers.

I had thought about using our old cushion's inserts (fluff) but I needed 6 cushions worth and I only had 4 existing cushions. Buying the inserts seemed like the easiest/cost effective and least messy way of filling the cushions.

I do love how they turned out!!

and they look great on our couch.

actually finishing projects

I'm finally taking the time to finish those forgotten projects...the ones in the too hard basket, not so exciting anymore basket or *cough* just need a few stands of thread cut and washed project.

boys stitching

I was working on hand stitching the binding to this quilt. Master W asked if he could do some stitching with me. I set them both up with white homespun, a hoop, thread and a needle large enough for their little hands.

I love watching their deep concentration using the needle going up and down.

They were loving the freedom of thread choice every time it ran out. They haven't yet mastered re- threading the needle....but I'm sure it will be another skill they learn- soon.

I love they are so enthusiastic and proud of what they each created with Master W saying stitching is just like painting mum but without the paint. (such wise words from a 6 year old)

many fat quarters later

I received many fat quarters from the Birthday fat quarter club  back in March.

The fabric sat in my stash till the middle of winter before I started on a giant star quilt. The only fabric I purchased was the cream homespun and binding fabric. I was very pleased to be able to use fabrics I already had.

I am so glad I unpicked all the machine quilting that was holding it together. I decided that I would hand quilt it in cream thread.

Thats me (you can see my feet and hands-just) holding up this quilt!

I'm so proud this is finally done. It will be going to a new home in the next week. I hope the recipient loves it as much as I do (and the exciting part is they have no idea it's coming!!)
